Restoration of Stained Glass Windows

WHAT ARE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS?
Stained glass windows have adorned Christian churches as early as the 5th century. Today stained glass windows are not only found in churches but also in private homes and commercial buildings. They can be figurative, symbolic or ornamental. Traditionally they are made of coloured glass, which is often painted with vitreous glass paint for added line and shading detail (e.g. figurative windows). The paint is fired into the glass at very high temperatures and then the individual glass pieces are assembled into panels with lead came, which is soldered at the joints - we refer to this as the "lead matrix". How is it done?
