Richard Mueller has lived in Nova Scotia for
thirty-four years. Throughout this time he has exhibited in
Canada, Europe and the United States. His work is represented
in many private and public collections in each of these countries.
In 2002 Dalhousie University produced a highly successful comprehensive
twenty-year survey of his work. This is how he describes his
work:
My work is materials-based and conceptual in nature, employing
various imagery as it relates to the concepts that interest
me while producing the work. Trained as a painter-sculptor
at the State University of NY at Buffalo and the Maryland
Institute of Art, I have long been interested in the space
between the illusionary surfaces of the image and the interpretive
space of the viewer. My work varies from painting, to digital
prints, to sculptural relief and employs a wide range of materials
including wood, canvas, metals, glass, paper, paint, fired
ceramic inks (on glass) and digital media.
Richard Mueller is on faculty with NSCAD University, the Historical
and Critical Studies Division.
